Of screens and driving
I sometimes admire the amount of pimping that goes into these nairobi matatus. it seems that alot of effort(artistic) and resources(money) go into it. Recently i have started to question what benefits do many a commuter gain from all this investment that is somehow meant for their enjoyment? is it really enjoyment or nuissance? the noise that comes out of the sound systems in some of these matatus can guarantee you loss of hearing before you reach 40. i have seen that some of them also have LCD screens offering a visusl of the music blaring from the speakers. i wonder how a driver will concentrate on the road while watching music videos from the LCD screen that is placed at the dashboard? These to me pose a threat to the matatu ride experience than they do offer enjoyment!
Roads,reconstruction
If you have been on the roads of nairobi lately, you will have noticed the reconstructions that have been going on. Some roads have been recarpeted, street lights have been put up and several culverts put in place. What has come to me as an odd observation is the fact that some of the roads that have been recarpeted were roads that were of fine quality while terrible roads have been left out. For instance, kipande road in Ngara Estate has been in a sorry state for a long time while Musuem Hill road connecting to Forest road has been fine yet it has been redone and ngara road left out!! What gives, i cant understand the logic behind this action.

Tim in Kenya: Matatus
Tim in Kenya: Matatus
Hey Tim. Guess your experience was one of a kind. Thats matatu culture for you- Nairobi style and it can be quite chaotic but it works.(although it can get a bit rough) Peace.

traffic rules,rules
As i was saying on the last post, these guys either simply don't know or they ignore the rules of the road. Just now i saw a souped up matatu with its bull horns raving infront of a hospital! The hospital sign plus the no hooting sign were well and clearly visible but ooh no,this driver had to blow his horn all over the place not forgetting the loud banging crunk music blaring from the matatu's sound system. How can we sanitize these people, tell me please!!!

crazy drivers
Even though there is an artistic culture alive in what is the public service vehicle industry populaly known as the matatu industry, there seems to exist minimal or no driving ethics followed by the drivers in this industry. Have you ever wondered where these drivers get their licenses from or how they get them because if you asked me, they seem to know nothing concerning driving rules and regulations.

Public Service Vehicles
I have lived in Nairobi for a large part of my life and i know for certain that there exists in this City the most wicked public service vehicles on the planet. Since this is my first post i will not avail any pictures but as i continue blogging i will definitly spruce up this blog with wicked photos of these whips. Question, do you know of any other city with a Public Service Vehicle culture as diverse as Nairobi?
